
Mark Holter

Saxophonist, Musician, Husband, and Father, Mark Holter resides in The Woodlands, TX just north of Houston with his wife Gretchen and one son Rodney. Mark makes a living as a professional musician and music educator specializing in Jazz. He works full time for Project GRAD Houston, a non-profit group that provides Fine Arts Education to inner-city students. Teaming up with Houston ISD, Mark serves as a Music Teacher-Specialist at Jefferson Elementary School in the Davis Feeder Pattern. He is the director of City Jazz Kidz, a Jazz Ensemble made up of extremely talented Elementary, Middle School and High School students from ten different HISD Schools. Holter is also Instructor of Music at Houston Community College Central where he teaches Jazz Band, Improvisation, Composition and Arranging, Piano Class, and Private Lessons. Mark also serves as Instrumental Director for Stonebridge Church in The Woodlands. Mark holds a Bachelor of Music Education from West Virginia University, a Masters Degree in Saxophone Performance from University of Houstons Moores School of Music and is currently in the pursuit of a Doctor of Musical Arts in conducting. (Still have not finished!) Mr. Holter has been featured as soloist with the Texas All-State Jr. College Jazz Ensemble and has been an active clinician at the Texas Music Educators Association and Texas Band Masters Association Conventions which are held in San Antonio each year. Mark has toured extensively and played shows for many performers such as Tony Bennett, Kay Starr, Coasters, Temptations, Four Tops, Platters, Natalie Cole, Spinners, Michael Bolton, and many others! He has also had the opportunity to play music with such luminaries as Charlie Haden, Phil Woods, Chris Vadala, Joe Henderson, Conrad Herwig, Terence Blanchard, Adam Nussbaum, Willie Thomas, Marvin Stam, Red Holloway and many other notables. Mark has written many compositions, arrangements, and transcriptions for big band, small groups, and lots of charts and orchestrations for church.
